Spic Macay – Amazingly Different

I’ve been away from blogging for quite an amount of time. So, this is my post on one of my really refreshing experiences at the college.

Spic Macay (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), is an amazing organization aimed at promoting Indian Classical Music and Culture among us (yea, we = young, energetic ones). Now, don’t have any prejudices (as I had till I attended their first concert) about our Classical Music and Culture. This is not about a person boring us with his 1 hour uninteractive sessions on music – but on the contrary, this is an amazingly refreshing experience.

The first Spic Macay event in our campus (Amritapuri, Amrita University) was help about a month ago, where the Odyssey (a form of Classical Dance) maestro – Smt. Kavita Dwibedi performed. It was mind boggling. The perfection in her movements, the ultimate dedication towards the art form, and the humbleness – you have to experience it.

The second event came a month after that (last thursday), and I was once more lucky to get a seat (it was full house). This time, the Sarod exponent – Sri. Partho Saraty. I recollect the words – “Certain things can’t be expressed in words, but you’ve got to experience it.” The one hour performance, which consisted of three compositions, saw applause from the audience like never before.

So, my suggestion – if you get a chance to attend any of the Spic Macay organized events, never miss it. It is World Class performance, which we should be proud of.

[Thanks to all those who worked to bring Spic Macay to our campus – Kudos !!]
